This summer, gospel music competition How Sweet The Sound will offer a fresh take on the genre by showcasing breakout artists ready to reshape the gospel music industry. The live event takes place June 3, 2023, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA.
How Sweet The Sound will pit gospel choirs, soloists, dancers and spoken word artists against each other for cash prizes and the title of best artist. The event’s judges include Grammy Award winner Hezekiah Walker; Grammy Award winner Tamela Mann; Dove Award winner Jekalyn Carr; renowned choir director Ricky Dillard; and host Donald Lawrence. These artists will perform live at the event.
For the first time ever, How Sweet The Sound is giving an award for Best Spoken Word Artist. Through our ongoing partnership with the Ad Council’s Mental Health Initiative, we’ll keep elevating the importance of emotional wellbeing in Black communities and encourage people to take a proactive approach to their mental health. This includes sharing resources like expert-vetted conversation guides from Sound It Out, which uses music to help parents and caregivers have conversations about emotional wellbeing with their middle schoolers.
“I am so happy to see that How Sweet The Sound can continue to provide a platform for the performing arts to flourish within the faith-based community,” said Nathanael Brown, an award-winning choral director, saxophonist, and CEO of Gentle Giant Music Ministries, which owns the How Sweet The Sound brand.
Tickets for How Sweet The Sound are available at Ticketmaster or the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
